- All in-person instruction will take place at Hempfield High School according to the times listed below. Room assignments will be communicated upon arrival at HHS on the first day of summer school.
- Attendance requirements: It is expected that students attend all in-person classes. Sometimes an absence is necessary. Absences will be permitted as follows:
- 1 absence will be permitted for a class that meets one time per week.
- 2 absences will be permitted for a class that meets two times per week.
- 3 absences will be permitted for a class that meets three times per week.

ELA

Summer Course Offerings:
English 9
Each ELA remedial course includes grade-level fiction and nonfiction passages to practice comprehension, application of literacy techniques, brief written analysis, and examination of craft and structure. Students will also experience writing instruction each week, with lessons designed to practice different modes of informational, persuasive, and narrative writing.
English 10

Summer Course Offerings:
General Science
General Science will be a condensed hybrid course providing students with both guided and independent learning experiences. Students will be provided with a modular learning experience designed to best meet individual needs. Students will receive either a full 4 weeks of either module: The Chemical World or Molecules for Life depending on identified needs. Students will be provided with a one-week review of the opposite module. This course is designed to provide students with the foundational skills necessary to be successful in Biology and Chemistry.
Biology
Biology will be a condensed hybrid course providing students with both guided and independent learning experiences. Students will complete five modules focused on cells and cell processes and the continuity and unity of life content from the Keystone exam. Each module will contain a series of instructional videos, quizzes, activities, a lab, and tests that will reinforce the key biological concept of the module.
Chemistry
Chemistry will be a condensed hybrid course providing students with both guided and independent learning experiences. This course covers topics such as matter and its classification, chemical symbols and formulas, atomic structure, periodic classification of the elements, bonding, the gas laws and molecular theories, stoichiometry, solutions, acids, bases, and salts.

Summer Course Offerings:
Ninth Grade American History
American History 9, 1870s-present provides students with a foundation in the historical, geographic, political, sociocultural, and economic development of the United States during this period. Students will examine the major issues, achievements, and challenges faced by our country and its leaders. This course includes connecting current issues in America with the past using assignments and quizzes.
World HistoryThe emphasis in this course will be to increase an understanding of world cultures and history including Western Europe, Middle East, India, China, and Africa from 1450 to the present. Each region of the world will be covered briefly with an emphasis on major events and people from the region with a look into their impact on today. The course focuses on current issues that reflect historical and cultural trends. Students will need to complete assignments and quizzes.
Government and EconomicsThe emphasis in this course will be on the relationship of the course content to the professional and work life of the student in an environment of technological change and development. The content of the course will focus on a study of the structure and functions of the United States’ political and economic systems. Students will need to complete assignments and quizzes.
Global America
The emphasis in this course will be on current American History. This course will emphasize modern American history since the Cold War and America’s role in global political and economic issues. Themes will include international conflict and compromise, comparative government, globalization, economic interdependence, and technology. Students will need to complete assignments and quizzes.
